Processing, certification and trade in the fisheries and aquaculture industry
The Eurofish conference in Istanbul hosted by 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗸𝗶𝘆𝗲, June 2026, with participants from 30 countries addressed important future issues for the fisheries industry. As you can understand, it is a privilege to be able to share knowledge and experience as a member country and participant.

Certification and Corporate Sustainability
Certification issues are very important for maintaining standards, quality and equal competition and last but not least sustainability. Topics during the conference were among others MSC, The WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies – to protect ocean sustainability and implementation of Corporate Sustainability including SDG 17 and Agenda 2023 towards private and public industries and global supply chains.

Market – what are the younger generations demand
Generation Z and younger generations have different demands and lifestyles that everyone in the industry needs to pay attention to and adapt to, as very large fishing organizations from Spain and several others testified to.

Processing – Automation and Ai is here
In the processing industry, several players testify to the transformation that rapid technological development, automation and AI are having for the entire industry. Baader and JBT Marel among outhers spoke about future technology in the processing area. Automation and AI already play a crucial role in the industry today and development is moving forward at a breakneck pace. As you understand, this will play a crucial role in the industry, not least because it means that the level of competence of the workforce is changing.
We also had the privilege of visiting a fish factory in Istanbul, Sagdiclar. The group of companies spans several areas of activity and has a large export market. The factory processes fish into easily accessible fish meals that are now in increasing demand on the market.

International networking the driving force
Eurofish as an organization plays a very important role for the industry, since it is through cooperation and knowledge exchange that continued development, sustainability work and competitiveness are developed.
I advise you to have a look at all the presentations on the Eurofish conference site.
Last but not least – Sweden with its history and future great potential in the fishing industry should of course make sure to become a member of Eurofish. This would strengthen our existing companies in the industry and at the same time accelerate the growth of the many innovative scale-ups that are bubbling up today.
